I'm Ms. Keister and I'm so excited to have you in my math class this year!! Welcome to the A team, as the teachers on team 8A like to refer to themselves! Be prepared to work hard and play hard this year. I promise that if you always do your best, that you will be very successful this year.
I'm very excited to announce that Mrs. Campbell and I will be co-teaching THREE classes again this year!!!! We've been working very hard to create fun and high-quality lessons that will benefit all of our students. She's not quite as tech-savvy as I am, so I'll be making the website updates for now, but be on the look out for her learning new things this school year too!!
Be sure to click the link at the top of this page to follow me on Twitter: @Ms_Keister. I have also joined Instagram to reach more students. Through these social networking sites, I want to show examples of ways to stay up to date with the 21st century, as these are the ways many people communicate and even learn! Finally, I want to be an example of safe and proper use of these sites.

About the Math
Colonial School District is moving forward with their implementation of the Common Core State Standards. This means that you will be learning the same things as almost everyone else in the country. Many of the lessons that we cover in this class will tie together concepts that you learned in both 7th and 8th grades. Most of our year is spent on algebra concepts, but we will also be covering concepts in geometry, statistics and numeric reasoning. We will be using Learning Focused Strategies, just as your teachers have done in the past; Student Learning Maps will be used to guide instruction, Graphic Organizers will be an essential study tool and culminating activities will be used to pull all of the ideas in a unit together.
About the Teacher
Math has always been my favorite subject in school (and gym too, of course!) I went to University of Delaware to become and Elementary School Teacher, but I fell in love with middle school! I've taught both 7th and 8th grade made, but 8th grade is my favorite, both because of the content I get to teach (algebra is my favorite type of math) and the age group (almost ready for high school). I also earned a Master's degree from Wilmington University in school leadership and technology, and am currently a doctorate candidate at Wilmington University for Educational Leadership. It is my goal to use more technology in the classroom every year, and this website was my first step! It has developed into a great resource that continues to change and I encourage students (and parents) to use it often! This pictures shows my brothers, our puppies, and myself from the day of my Master's graduation. You will hear a lot about both dogs, Telly Monster and Tedi Bear, over the year and see a bunch of pictures. In addition to spending time with my dogs, I also love spending time with my family, playing on my kickball team, traveling and reading. Last year was a tough one for my family, losing my youngest brother on my birthday. Many of you probably remember the Heroin Alert program from last year and my story, but for more information you can check out my family's attackaddiction.com website. I am very involved in our campaign and will continually promote the importance of a drug-free lifestyle.
